Shailen Bhatt has a distinguished career in the executive branch and private sector transportation leadership. He served as the Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) from January 2023 to September 2024, a role to which he was nominated by President Joe Biden and unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate. During his tenure at FHWA, he oversaw the implementation of significant investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, focusing on highway safety, infrastructure improvements, and sustainable transportation systems. Prior to his role at FHWA, Bhatt held senior positions in both public and private sectors, including executive director of the Colorado Department of Transportation, secretary of the Delaware Department of Transportation, and Associate Administrator for Highway Policy and Government Affairs at the Federal Highway Administration during the Obama administration. He also served as the President and CEO of the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) and as Senior Vice President for Global Transportation Innovation and Alternative Delivery at AECOM, an infrastructure consulting firm. Upon entering his federal executive position, Bhatt committed to divesting various stock options and investment interests, including those from AECOM and Spoke Safety.
