Benjamin L. Cardin, a Democrat, served as a U.S. Senator for Maryland from 2007 to 2025. Throughout his Senate career, Cardin was involved in various committees, including the Environment and Public Works Committee, where he chaired the Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee. He also served on the Finance Committee, chairing the Health Care Subcommittee, and was a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, where he eventually became chair. Cardin also chaired the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee.
